“Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association to build a New Haven for Youth Haven”
The Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association & Youth Haven held their Annual General Meetings recently where a special announcement was made. SCHBA is proud to announce that we will be partnering with Youth Haven to rebuild “A NEW HAVEN FOR YOUTH HAVEN”! The existing youth emergency shelter located on Wellington Street East – which provides shelter for up to 300 youths per year – was in desperate need of cosmetic repairs; however, when builder professionals from our SCHBA board inspected the century home, it quickly became evident that a purpose-built home would be a better approach for association. A video, showing a glimpse of the damage to the current home was presented to our members. Lucy Gowers, Youth Haven’s Executive Director, addressed the members and answered questions from the group. In her remarks, she emphasized the need to provide the best care possible for youth experiencing homelessness – in a safe and healthy environment. After the presentation, members in attendance expressed their intention to help rebuild the shelter. Their desire to give back and make a difference in the lives of those who rely on Youth Haven, and to the community, was overwhelming!
“We’re excited about the Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association’s involvement with us. We can’t put into words how truly grateful we are. Our youth deserve the best. The best care, the best support and the best services and programs we can offer to help them transform their lives for the better. Now they’ll have the best home in which to do it!” said Lucy Gowers after the meeting.
